The North Pole Rotary
Club meets on Wednesdays at the Pagoda Restaurant in North Pole, Alaska.
The North Pole Rotary Club was
chartered in 1978 and has 30 members, including 2 charter members. Our
most recent project was to install a bus shelter near a school and
senior housing complex. For our Centennial Project, we developed an
outdoor sports park for skateboarders and BMX riders. Over 10 years ago,
we installed a gazebo in a local park that we developed and we continue
to oversee the upkeep of the gazebo. Five years ago, we "adopted" a mile
in the state's Adopt-A-Mile program, and at least two times a year we do
our best to keep our mile clean. We host the North Pole Health Fair and
provide turkeys for Thanksgiving boxes. We sponsor a youth to the Rotary
Youth Leadership Award (RYLA), provide a four-year scholarship to a
local high school student, adopt a family in need at Christmas, and
support a Rotaract Club. Our primary fundraisers are selling roses,
hosting a basketball tournament, and hosting a halibut fry with a silent
auction.
Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional
leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical
standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the
world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 32,000
Rotary clubs located in 200 countries (RI International site).
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of
service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage
and foster: FIRST - The development of acquaintance as an opportunity
for service; SECOND - High ethical standards in business and
professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful
occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an
opportunity to serve society; THIRD - The application of the ideal of
service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life; and
FOURTH - The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and
peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons
united in the ideal of service (RI International site).
